As construction work progresses for the 36-inch section of the Main Onshore Pipeline, United Infrastructure (UI), has now started construction of the 20-inch section between Ince and Stanlow.
The works will follow a linear process, as seen along the 36-inch section, with pre-construction works commencing in late summer 2026. These activities help to keep the works safe, efficient, and environmentally responsible.
Along the route, you are likely to see the UI team:
As part of our ongoing community information event programme, the closest event to the 20-inch section of the Pipeline will be held at the Elton Community Centre (CH2 4PU) on Tuesday 17 November 2026 between 4pm and 7pm.

Along the route, you are likely to see the UI team:
- Marking the working area with temporary fencing
- Creating safe access routes by clearing trees, vegetation, and hedgerows, as well as pruning trees so vehicles can move safely
- Managing water flow with temporary drainage to prevent flooding
- Preparing the ground by removing the topsoil and laying temporary tracks for vehicles
- Delivering and preparing pipes which will be brought to site, welded together, and coated for protection before installation
- Excavate the pipe trench and install the Pipeline before commencing restoration activities. At crossing points, such as the Hooton to Helsby train line, A5117 (Hill View Highway) and Cryers Lane, trenchless construction methods will be used to install the Pipeline beneath the existing infrastructure. This method ensures the existing infrastructure can continue operation.
