Secant piling progress for the M56

Shaft preparation works progress at M56 crossings as secant piling installations near completion
United Infrastructure (UI) and its tunnelling subcontractors Joseph Gallagher Limited (JGL) and Skanska are nearing completion of its secant piling activities alongside the M56 motorway crossings. These works form a key part of the shaft preparations for the Main Onshore Pipeline's (the Pipeline) micro tunnelling programme.
Secant piling is a process that involves drilling interlocking concrete piles to form watertight shaft walls. This process is essential due to the high groundwater levels on-site and will provide the structural support needed to safely install the Pipeline deep beneath the M56 motorway.
With the last secant piles currently being installed, UI and JGL are now preparing for the next stage of works, which involves excavating the shafts down to formation level.
