Main Onshore Pipeline: Chester Road works

Preparatory works are underway as part of the microtunnelling programme beneath Chester Road
Liverpool Bay CCS Limited's (LBCCS) Engineering, Procurement and Construction contractor, United Infrastructure (UI) commenced construction operations in the Chester Road area on Monday 12 January 2026. These are part of the works required for the Main Onshore Pipeline's microtunnelling programme beneath Chester Road. As a result, you may notice increased activity around 2 Sisters Poultry Limited as UI start setting up construction compounds on either side of Chester Road this week.

Microtunnelling is a trenchless tunnelling technique that will bury the Pipeline deep beneath the ground, ensuring minimal disruption to key infrastructure, transport routes and environmentally sensitive areas.

Microtunnelling activites beneath Chester Road will be carried out by UI's specialist tunnelling subcontractor, Joseph Gallagher Limited. These works are due to take place over approximately 22 days (subject to progress) from the week commencing 20 April 2026 and ending the week commencing 11 May 2026.

Future updates regarding the microtunnelling programme beneath Chester Road will be uploaded onto the HyNet Hub in advance.
