Main Onshore Pipeline: Summary of construction works

United Infrastructure continue to progress works along the Main Onshore Pipeline route
Our Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) contractor, United Infrastructure (UI) is progressing with a series of works along the Main Onshore Pipeline (the Pipeline) route. These works are in place to ensure the Pipeline is delivered safely and in line with its construction schedule.

Fencing along the Pipeline route

We are pleased to announce that UI has completed the majority of fencing along the Pipeline route. This fencing provides a clear marking of the Pipeline route and access areas required for its construction.

Further works along the Pipeline route

With fencing now complete, you may start to notice increased activity from the UI team along it. This includes:

  • Preparing access routes
UI will conduct tree, vegetation and hedgerow clearance through the pipeline route, alongside selective tree pruning near the Pipeline's construction compounds and access points. These works will help to ensure the pipeline route is clear for construction and construction vehicles can enter and exit safely.

  • Installing temporary drainage systems
Temporary drainage systems will be installed to help manage water flow within the construction corridor. This will help to mitigate flood risk around the Pipeline and prevent sediment runoff from entering nearby watercourses.

  • Topsoil stripping
UI will remove and carefully store excavated topsoil along the Pipeline route. This will help to create a construction corridor and facilitate the movement of plant.

  • Pipeline stringing
Sections of the Pipeline and bends will be delivered to the working area using construction plant and will be set out in sequence (“stringing”) ready for bending, welding and installation.

  • Trenching
UI will excavate the Pipeline's trench along the agreed route using specialised mechanical plant.

  • Backfilling and reinstatement
UI will lower the welded and coated Pipeline into the trench. They will then connect the sections of the Pipeline together and install the fibre-optic communication ducting. Once complete, the trench will be backfilled and the surrounding ground will be reinstated.

Future updates about these works will be uploaded onto the HyNet Hub in advance.
