Sections of the Main Onshore Pipeline (the Pipeline) arrived in the UK this weekend by sea freight. The sections will be transported to construction compounds along the Pipeline route using specialist rear-steered lorries.
Each section of the Pipeline measures 18 metres in length (which is about the length of a ten-pin bowling lane), with two sections transported at a time on each vehicle. Once delivered, Pipeline sections will be laid out in sequence along the route (“stringing”) ready for bending, welding and installation.
All traffic routes used to transport the Pipeline have been assessed as part of the Construction Traffic Management Plan (CTMP) and have been approved by Flintshire County Council (FCC) / Cheshire West and Chester Council (CWCC) in advance.
