Our Engineering, Procurement and Construction contractor, United Infrastructure and its specialist tunnelling subcontractor, Joseph Gallagher Limited, are set to begin microtunnelling operations beneath the Shropshire Union Canal in the week commencing 11 May 2026.
Microtunnelling is a trenchless tunnelling technique that will bury the Main Onshore Pipeline deep beneath the ground, ensuring minimal disruption to key infrastructure, transport routes and environmentally sensitive areas. This means the Shropshire Union Canal will remain fully operational during the works.
Microtunnelling works require 24-hour operations to ensure the safety of the tunnel and construction team. For the Shropshire Union Canal, these works are due to take place over 8 days, starting the week commencing 11 May 2026 and ending the week commencing 18 May 2026 (subject to progress).
More information about 24-hour microtunnelling works is provided in the microtunnelling factsheet here
If you have any questions or concerns about the works beneath the Shropshire Union Canal, please email the project team at hello@hynethub.co.uk or call the project phoneline at 0113 395 4495
