What is cold bending?
Cold bending involves carefully shaping sections of the Pipeline (without the use of heat) to match its approved route. This involves using specialist hydraulic pipe benders that gently apply pressure to create precise and controlled bends. This process allows the Pipeline to follow the natural shape of the land while maintaining its strength and integrity.
Each Pipeline bend is designed in advance and carried out by United Infrastructure's specialist team to ensure it meets strict engineering and safety standards. Once cold bending is complete, sections of the Pipeline will be welded together before being lowered into its trench using the lower and lay method.
*The lower and lay method is the process of placing the Pipeline into the open-cut trench, using pipelayers fitted with sidebooms for stability.
More information on the Pipeline's construction progress will be added to the Latest News section on the HyNet Hub in advance.
