Main Onshore Pipeline: Topsoil stripping is now complete

This is a key milestone for the construction programme as it unlocks the next stage in construction activity
Topsoil stripping along the route of the Main Onshore Pipeline (the Pipeline) is now complete. This marks a significant milestone, as the project moves from its preparation phase into active construction.

The scale of the pipeline

The Pipeline extends 31.3km from Stanlow in Cheshire to Point of Ayr in Flintshire – about a quarter of the length of Hadrian's Wall.

Topsoil stripping took place over 10 weeks from March to June 2026, with the United Infrastructure (UI) teams working hard to complete the programme safely and efficiently, in line with project requirements and environmental safeguards.

At the same time, UI has been progressing a range of activities to prepare the Pipeline for installation, including welding and coating operations (find out more here) and cold bending (find out more here).
